Project Overview:

  • On 27th May 2024, the Debabrata Auro Foundation with United Way Mumbai organised an Environmental awareness session aimed at instilling environmental awareness and knowledge among children living in the Vile Parle slum area. 
  • The session sought to empower children to become stewards of their environment and advocates for sustainable practices within their community through interactive discussions and engaging activities. 

 

Objectives:

  • Educated children about various environmental topics such as pollution, waste management, and biodiversity conservation.
  • Raised awareness about the importance of preserving natural resources and protecting the environment for future generations.
  • Inspired children to take positive actions to reduce their environmental footprint and promote sustainable living practices. 

 

Topics Covered:

  • Types of pollution (air, water, soil) and their sources.
  • Principles of reducing, reusing, and recycling, along with proper disposal techniques.
  • Importance of preserving wildlife and ecosystems.
  • Causes, effects, and mitigation strategies.
  • Tips for conserving energy, water, and natural resources in daily life.
  • Ways children can contribute to environmental conservation efforts in their neighbourhood. 

 

Impact and Benefits:

 

The session successfully engaged 35 children from the Vile Parle Bhajiwadi slum area, significantly increasing their awareness and understanding of environmental issues. 

 

  • Children gained a comprehensive understanding of various environmental topics and the importance of sustainability.
  • The session fostered a sense of responsibility and enthusiasm for protecting the environment.
  • Through hands-on activities, children learned practical ways to contribute to environmental conservation.
