Report: Cancer Awareness Campaign Camp
On 7th August 2025, Debabrata Mitalee Auro Foundation, in collaboration with the Department of Preventive Oncology, Tata Memorial Hospital, conducted a Cancer Awareness Campaign Camp at Aarey Colony, Sector 13, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The program aimed to educate and empower women with knowledge on cancer prevention, early detection, and available healthcare resources. Expert-led sessions covered the nature of cancer, its genetic, environmental, and lifestyle-related risk factors, and provided focused discussions on common cancers in women such as cervical, breast, and oral cancers. Participants learned about the importance of self-examinations, regular screenings like Pap smears and mammograms, and early diagnosis for better treatment outcomes. The session also emphasized healthy lifestyle practices, including proper nutrition, regular exercise, and avoidance of tobacco and alcohol, while addressing myths and misconceptions to reduce fear and stigma.
The camp successfully engaged women from the local community, especially those with limited access to preventive healthcare information. Attendees were introduced to available services from the Department of Preventive Oncology, including screening facilities, counseling, and follow-up support. By the end of the session, participants demonstrated greater awareness of cancer risks and preventive measures, showing readiness to adopt proactive health practices and undergo routine screenings. This initiative not only provided valuable education but also strengthened the link between the community and essential preventive health services, fostering a supportive environment for long-term cancer awareness and risk reduction.
