The Debabrata Auro Foundation (DAF), was founded and established in his memory. (Late) Dr. Debabrata Shome Sir was a remarkable individual who dedicated his life to improving society and uplifting the underprivileged. His unwavering commitment to social development and his deep compassion and empathy for those in need inspired the creation of the Debabrata Auro Foundation. Driven by his vision, DAF strives to continue his legacy and carry forward his noble mission of creating opportunities and empowering underprivileged communities. Born into a reputed business family of Shillong (Meghalaya), Dr Debabrata Shome imbibed the qualities of selfless service from his father since childhood. His father, Shri Rakesh Ranjan Shome was a freedom fighter. Inspired by his father’s ideals Dr. Shome joined Army Medical Corps after completing his Medicine studies.
Later, he joined ONGC and was posted to Mumbai. He worked in the Medical section of ONGC BRBC, in different capacities with great love and dedication, a boon to his patients who loved him and his selfless service. His loving and helpful nature endeared him to all who met him. During his lifetime he has sponsored a number of students and used his profession to help needy people undergo free surgeries in various city hospitals. Alas! destiny had different plans for him and he succumbed to cancer in 2011.
We, his family have pledged to continue his unfinished work. Thus, DAF was born to fulfill his cherished dream.
